Are You Stuck to Your Story?

Your past is not as powerful as You are.

If we were to meet, what story would you tell me about You? What are the “important” parts of your past? Would you share the heartaches and struggles? Would you share your successes and triumphs? Perhaps a little of both?

Sometimes we can get caught up in our past. Perhaps you have met someone new, and the stories they tell you are all from their past. Perhaps difficult parts of their past. Perhaps sharing nothing regarding what they intend to create for themselves. It would be like standing at the rear of a speeding boat. Pointing to the turbulence of the wake behind them. There, see there, that BIG wake? That is when I got divorced. Oh and THAT one, that was when … (insert some tragic story here).

No doubt stories have their place. So many movies have been made about the incredible journeys people have gone through in their lives. Certainly, I have had some metaphorical train wrecks in my past. But who I became because of those train wrecks is the story that I want to focus on myself. Certainly, life on planet Earth is perhaps like no other planet in the galaxy. And here you are. What stories do you have of your past? When you share your stories with others, how do you couch your past? Are you a “victim” of your circumstances? Are you the martyr?

Getting back to the boat metaphor … If you are mostly anchored in the stories of your past, looking at all the turbulence(s) of your life path, who then is actually driving your boat? Who is facing forward and steering your metaphorical boat? Who is looking at where you could be going? Deciding where you would prefer your life to go?

Whatever you put your attention on … expands. Maybe your future is all about your past. Maybe you are writing a book about your past. About your journey. Then, perhaps, your past does have a place, front and center, in your life. But if you are telling your story of your past, without looking for the gifts that your past has been holding for you, then perhaps you are stuck in your story. There are gifts in our struggles. There is, often, tremendous growth that we experienced from our past. Perhaps the strength of who we have become tells the story best.

Whatever you put your attention on, expands in your consciousness. Expands in your life. Focus on what you want more of. The clearer you get about what you prefer, the more effect your consciousness has on creating the future you prefer.

There can be unresolved mental and emotional karmic stigmas imprinted on your psyche. To truly be free of your past (strongly) influencing your future, it would serve you to resolve and heal the karmic imprinting from your past.

Love You!
