It is Up to You
You decide it all
So many people, who have experienced some method of awakening, find that they were living their life drifting along. It is easy to do, really. Just follow the herd.
But we, as souls, came here to grow and evolve ourselves. Whether that happens or not, in part, is decided by how conscious we become of ourselves. Conscious of what we are thinking, believing, choosing and acting upon. It is our consciousness, or rather how conscious we are of our consciousness, that decides what happens in our life and how we re-act to it. Left unattended, we can load up our psyche with karmic clutter. Thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, expectations and such that don’t really serve us.
Your word is your wand. In other words (pardon the pun ;- ) it is our thoughts that seed everything else in our life. Our thoughts decide what we do, or do not, create. The universe itself is not biased. We bring the deciding factors with us as to how our life will play itself out. But if we are not tending to, or becoming mindful of, those day-to-day thoughts that we have, then we are living our life drifting through our life. If we are not consciously choosing our thoughts, we are unconsciously creating our life. That is why meditation can be so powerful. Getting a grip on our conscious and subconscious thoughts. It won’t happen overnight. In other words, you can’t be living your life in some unconscious direction, and in a flash, be the master of your life. That is the whole purpose of living. To know ourselves.
So then, what decides what we think is paramount to what we become. Our thinker (ego) was taught how to think, and what to think, typically by our family of origin. Perhaps you can see core thinking styles that you learned in your family of origin. For example, my father came from a poor family dynamic. I am sure he learned very early on that if he were to have something, he would need to make it himself. So he got very good at making things.
Fast forward a decade or more and along I come. After I became an adult, I thought that I was out on my own. As if that were enough to free me from the imprinting of my family. Until, one day, it struck me. I wanted an air compressor. Did I go buy one? Or did I (you guessed it) start accumulating parts so I could build myself an air compressor? I was quite startled that day when I realized that the way my father thought had embedded itself into my thinking. It wasn’t a conscious thing, until that day when I realized it. But I had the same programming operating in me that my father had subconsciously taught me.
Now, multiply all the various opinions, attitudes, beliefs and thoughts that have entrenched themselves within us. Those, in part, are the paydirt of lasting change. To root out the thinking within our thinker (ego) that we are not aware of.
You are totally programmable. You can “program” you, or you can ignore your programmability and let others program you. Just part of the fierce free will we have.
Love You
Les
