Change Your Karmic Momentum

Karma, like gravity, is impersonal

The scale that our human persona can be “programmed,” so to speak, is vast and deep. When we take on more and more karma, the probabilities of our future collapse into a much narrower range of possibilities. When I talk about our psyche being “programmed,” it can happen on many different levels. We can program ourselves, and others can program us, if we are not conscious about it. In this blog, I will talk about how we program our own psyches.

The elephant in the room, so to speak, at least how it relates to our programming, is our childhood. Look no further than your family of origin to see where the deepest ingrained imprinting has happened in this lifetime of yours. We can easily think that we have grown out of it. That is to say, as adults, we can easily think we have evolved or grown ourselves past the imprinting of our family’s dynamics. But I strongly suggest you might take another look.

We have only had our one narrative. We have only had our one life path. What I mean by that is you have a thread of “you” that has been woven through your entire life. Regardless of how dynamic that has been, it is still a single thread. What I mean by this is that there could have been many thousands of very different timelines that have brought you to this moment. If you were raised in a strict household, imagine that you grew up in a chaotic, fun and open-minded household. How would you be different today, had that happened? Of course, I am just using examples here, but take a moment, and think of the core aspects of your family of origin. Perhaps jot down a few core aspects. Then imagine just the opposite. Imagine the “opposite” type of household. Who would you be today, had you been raised in the opposite dynamic? Pause, and give that a think.

Let me stir the proverbial pot. What if you were raised by royalty? A prince or princess in a royal palace. Where everything you desired was given to you. All of your needs where handled by someone else. You didn’t have to lift a proverbial finger. Would that have changed your life? Would the things you might desire for your life now, all have been provided to you? Would that change your outlook on life? Perhaps some of you recognize this story as the early part of the Buddha’s life. He realized that that lifestyle didn’t prevent suffering. And he went on a quest to know himself.

Whatever struggles you might be having now would not exist had you been raised in a different environment. With that said, you were raised the way you were raised. This has set you up, in some way or another, with a karmic momentum of sorts. Changing yourself, as an adult, isn’t always easy. The personal development industry is a multibillion dollar industry for a reason. Our karmic momentum has us living our lives out with a karmic trajectory of sorts.

From my perspective, a very large contributor to your karmic situation right now, is your mental-emotional imprinting. Our mind/emotion relationships contribute to perhaps the lion’s share of our karmic demeanor. To our ability, or inability, to change our lives for the better. The annual new year’s resolutions, which typically last a week or two, is an example of our karmic momentum. We, perhaps, decide to start “this” or “that,” intending it to become part of who we are. And yet, very few people are actually able to make a lasting change in their life. Your karmic momentum is part of your imprinting of your own psyche. To take inventory of your own mental and emotional demeanor is a start. Topics that we have talked about, in length, in this blog over the last decade or more.

You can change your life. You can change your karma. It is always an inside job.

Love You
